A three-time Richmond premiership player is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of moving to Queensland to close out his career.

Contested Tigers midfielder Dion Prestia is understood to have "some interest" in returning to Queensland, where he played with the Suns during the early part of his career.

Following the conclusion of the 2016 season, Prestia departed Gold Coast for Punt Road via an October trade, where he'd go on to achieve the ultimate success three times over with Richmond under now-Suns coach Damien Hardwick.

Following Gold Coast's official acquisition of Hardwick, rumours have continued to build regarding a potential Dustin Martin move to join his former mentor. However, it's reportedly a Tiger teammate, Prestia, that may be likelier to cement a Queensland shift.

"There's a lot of speculation about whether Dustin Martin would or even could join his former coach Damien Hardwick up at the Gold Coast Suns," SEN reporter Sam Edmund declared on Wednesday morning.

"But there's also been quite a few whispers about another Tiger, maybe, being keen to move back to the Sunshine State.

"That's Dion Prestia, who left the Suns for Richmond back in 2016.

"My understanding is Prestia has privately discussed the prospect of finishing out his career up north. That feeling is something both Queensland clubs have also heard and are aware of."

Prestia's management, though, has made clear they haven't heard anything about that.

"I contacted Prestia's management yesterday. They say for their part they're unaware of any serious desire to change clubs," Edmund continued.

"I don't know the motivation for the interest, who knows what else is going on there. All I can tell you is that he has told people privately that he's got some interest.

"Is that tongue-in-cheek like his management company suggests? Is it legitimate? Is it just a pipe dream that will never happen?

"But it's certainly been doing the rounds up there (in Queensland) for a while."

Prestia's current Richmond deal expires at the end of next season, at which time he is slated to hold restricted-free-agent status.

The Tigers added ex-GWS midfield duo Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper during last year's player exchange period.
