Two of Carlton’s best could switch positions in 2018

Two of Calrton's youngest and most talented stars may potentially trade places throughout the season, in hopes to shake the lineup even further.

Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow are arguably two of Carlton's finest young prospects, in a period of time where the Blues' rebuild has taken sometime.

Carlton haven't been in the final series since 2013, which still was sheer luck that the Bombers' saga had ruled themselves ineligible to qualify.

Cripps at the moment hangs in the midfield, whereas Curnow's home is up in the forward line.

However Brendan Bolton recently told AFL.com.au that Cripps' height and weight allow for him to be a serious aerial target.

"His stats after 50 games are incredible and there were some comparisons to (Joel) Selwood's hardness, so we know we've got a player there that inspires others and really plays for our footy club," Bolton said.

"That's first and foremost and, as a result, he's ready to be vice-captain at a very young age.

"I think his next level will be being able to mark the ball and hurt (the opposition) on the scoreboard moving forward. That won't be just a quick fix, that will be a gradual improvement but I think that will be his next evolution.

"When you stand next to him, you realise how big he is for a midfielder – he's key-position size. So if he can keep learning that craft up forward working with David Teague that just adds another part to his game."

Regarding Curnow, Bolton claimed he would use him sporadically at stoppages in the centre, but is still going to focus on Curnow's ability as a forward.

"We want to make sure he's really strong in that space before throwing him around too much" said Bolton.

It seems both talents may be able to make a significant impact up forward, and in the middle of the ground.

Drawing comparisons to Carlton great Anthony Koutoufides, who apart from his cringe-worthy Souvlaki Hut advertisements, is known for his accolades in the navy blue jumper, and being described as the prototype for the perfect footballer.

His height and weight made him a perfect fit for all key positions on the ground, mainly in the middle and occasionally floating up forward.

If Cripps is able to float forward and Curnow able to attend to the midfield now and then, what will this mean for Carlton's 2018?
