Hawthorn greats Jason Dunstall and Dermott Brereton have responded to Don Scott's allegations of salary cap breaches during the club's golden era in the 1980s and '90s, which included five premiership triumphs.

Dunstall played and worked at Hawthorn for 30 years and has no knowledge of it occurring.

He believes if it did, the players would’ve known about it and penalties would have been handed down.

“There’s no point me engaging in speculation, all I can do is tell you what I know,” Dunstall said on Fox Footy on Wednesday night.

“(As) a player I was there from 1985-98, (and I) was doing bits and pieces as part of the administration until 2014. In all my time there I know absolutely nothing about any of that.

“I’ve never even heard the merest hint of a whisper, so I’m not inclined to give it too much oxygen.”

Brereton called Scott’s allegation absolute rubbish.

“If Don’s silly claim had any real legitimacy, I would honour it with an answer,” Brereton said.

Former AFL boss Ross Oakley said these allegations never came across his desk.

“I know nothing about them having a secret bank account and if we did, we would have done something about it,” Oakley said.

“I have absolutely no knowledge of it, so there’s not much I can say other than if we’d known they would have been penalised.” As per The Herald Sun

Is this Don Scott's way to take the heat off the mounting pressure at Coach Alastair Clarkson?
