The penultimate day of the 2024 trade period was littered with drama, culminating in Port Adelaide accepting a three-club, five-player deal.

West Coast, Richmond and Carlton showed the Power, Collingwood and Gold Coast how it's done, getting a trade ticked off by the AFL that saw an exchange of picks as well as Liam Baker and Matt Owies landing at the Eagles.

And, of course, there have been pick swaps.

Here's all the latest trade news from day seven of the 2024 AFL Trade Period...

Mega trade finalised

Dan Houston has officially joined Collingwood as part of a three-club trade.

The deal, which was initially stalled, was finalised after intense negotiations and includes significant player movements and draft picks.

Collingwood acquires Houston and pick 58, while Gold Coast receives John Noble along with future first-round picks and pick 39 from Port Adelaide.

Port Adelaide, in turn, secures Jack Lukosius, Joe Richards, Rory Atkins, and multiple draft picks.

Three-club trade confirmed

West Coast, Carlton and Richmond were able to shake hands over a deal that saw Liam Baker and Matt Owies head to the Eagles.

Baker was long linked to his childhood club and eventually got there, whilst Owies was ousted from the Blues.

As a result, Carlton received Pick 3, 63 and 68; Richmond received Pick 14; West Coast secured Baker, Owies, Pick 12 and 73.

Western Bulldogs is reportedly interested in luring Carlton midfielder Matt Kennedy to Whitten Oval.

Kennedy - who is contracted for 2025 - was allowed to explore his options amid a lack of midfield opportunities.

Pies declare interest in veteran Saint

Collingwood has come late for out-of-contract St Kilda veteran Tim Membrey, who is assessing his future.

Membrey has yet to extend his time at the Saints, with multiple clubs considering a play for the key forward.

As a result, the Pies have put forward their interest to help increase their premiership credentials.

The club has always been in desperate need of a key forward, and Membrey would be a stop-gate for the future.

Will Bailey Smith be walked to the draft?

Out-of-contract Western Bulldogs star Bailey Smith is hoping that a trade can be brokered between Geelong before the deadline ends Wednesday evening.

Smith has requested a trade to the Cats, who offered Pick 17 for his services, which has since been denied by the Bulldogs.

However, if a deal can't be met, the 23-year-old is every chance to walk to the National or Pre-Season Drafts in the hope of landing at Kardinia Park.

Former St Kilda and Collingwood player Luke Ball was involved in a similar scenario where a trade couldn't be met between the two clubs in 2009.

Eventually, Ball nominated for the draft and was selected by the Pies, a time he labelled "challenging".

The 2010 premiership player declared the "emotional toll" the process had on him and his family and hopes it doesn't happen to Smith.

Why West Coast traded Pick 3

The Eagles fans were outraged when learning that the club traded Pick 3 out in what is deemed as a superdraft.

Club CEO Don Pyke defended the decision to pass on its prized pick, acknowledging there were other areas they also wanted to improve in.

"The choice was made, and I guess it was not going to be popular with everyone," Pyke said on SEN.

"But we are going to get a good player, we believe at 12, not as good as we would get at three, we recognise that, but we believe there is going to be a really good player available to us at 12.

"And we'll now do work to try and close the Barrass deal and hopefully get ourselves back into this draft in some form or fashion."

Kemp a Saint?

Carlton defender is reportedly being chased by St Kilda in an attempt to cover the loss of Josh Battle (Hawthorn).

Kemp is still contracted for 2025 and will require a decent deal for the Blues to let him go.

However, the 23-year-old is being courted by Saints list boss Stephan Silvagni, who originally drafted Kemp when he was at Carlton.

The Saints do have Picks 32 and 45 to play with following their confirmed pick swap with Brisbane.

Power pull plug on three-club trade

A quartet of players are left in limbo once again as it is understood that Port Adelaide pulled the plug on a three-club trade.

The Power was dealing with Collingwood and Gold Coast that would send Houston to the Pies, Joe Richards, Jack Lukosius and Rory Atkins to Alberton and John Noble to the Suns.

With the deal ready to be signed, Port Adelaide board members were reportedly dissatisfied with what they were receiving.
