Melbourne free agent James Jordon is understood to be on the radar of rival clubs this year, with Essendon and Gold Coast linked to the Demons midfielder.

Jordon, the unused sub in Melbourne's 2021 grand final side, has featured in eight matches under Simon Goodwin this year - half coming as the tactical sub.

The 22-year-old played all 25 games in the Demons' drought-breaking premiership year and would feature in every home and away match last year as a leading wing option in the red and blue.

The Yarrawonga junior has found opportunities harder to come by this season, likely due to the arrival of former Bulldog Lachie Hunter, having started in just four matches in 2023.

Jordon has shown poise and promise in the top flight after being delisted in 2020, with the Demons re-signing him to their rookie list. That manoeuvre has made Jordon, who last signed in 2021 with a two-year deal, an unrestricted free agent for this off-season.

Players who have previously been delisted automatically fall under the free agency band when they come out of contract.

According to AFL.com.au, Jordon's situation has led to clubs expressing some level of interest in the outside midfielder, with the Bombers and Suns among those understood to have the young Demon on their radar.

While other clubs are also said to be tempted in moving for Jordon, the publication's report suggests the Demons are seen likely to retain their off-contract midfielder.

Fellow onballer James Harmes has recently been flagged as another Demon likely to be of interest to rival clubs, with Essendon having held talks with the Deavon Meadows product last year.

While Harmes is contracted for 2024, Jordon is among a bevy of Melbourne players yet to confirm their futures beyond this year, with Kade Chandler, Luke Dunstan, Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham also yet to sign new deals for 2024.

The Demons have enjoyed a busy signing period this year, having locked away Kysaiah Pickett, Trent Rivers, Alex Neal-Bullen and Judd McVee in recent months.
