In great news for Richmond fans, three-time premiership player Daniel Rioli and up-and-coming defender Rhyan Mansell have signed new deals for the club.

Rioli, who has been a revelation across half-back this year, has inked a deal to remain at Punt Road until the end of 2022.

The 24-year-old has been maligned at times throughout his career at Tigerland, however has found a new home in defence in which he has flourished in.

Meanwhile, Mansell came into the side early on in the year and took a while to find his feet, however the 21-year-old put up some inspiring displays late-on in the season to earn a new deal.

The South Australian will now call Punt Road home until the end of season 2023.

Blair Hartley, the Tigers' General Manager of Football Talent, expressed his delight at the pair signing on.

“Daniel really impressed in a new role as a running defender this year, which is a credit to his application and work ethic,” Hartley said to the club's website.

“Already, he has achieved a lot in his AFL career, and we are excited to see what more the future holds for him.

“Rhyan has also worked really hard since he first joined us as a train-on player in January.

“He has thoroughly deserved the senior opportunities he received this year, and we are excited to see him continue to progress across the next two years and beyond.”

The Tigers need all the personnel they can get ahead of next season, with 2021 exposing the side for it's lack of depth after the club was plagued by injuries to many of it's key stars.

The retirement of triple-premiership defenders in Bachar Houli and David Astbury has now further highlighted the need for Richmond to either fast-track the development of some of their younger players or dip into the trade market to bolster their stocks.
