The family of Brisbane Lions premiership player Aaron Shattock have provided a further update on the 44-year-old's recovery, stating he is "progressing well" after a horrific accident at work.

Shattock was seriously injured in late December when an excavator rolled and crushed him, leaving him with significant damage to his upper body. He would eventually undergo surgery on fractured ribs and a broken/dislocated arm.

The former Brisbane and Port Adelaide midfielder was placed in an induced coma but has since been transferred from the ICU after close to a month under intensive care, with the Shattock family expressing their appreciation for the love and support they and Aaron have received over the past several weeks.

"We are pleased to share that Aaron is progressing well following his accident," a statement from the Shattock family read.

"After 25 days in ICU, Aaron has been transferred to the ward where he will continue his road to recovery.

"Once again, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for the incredible care, kindness, and encouragement shown during this challenging time.

"Your support has meant so much to Aaron and our family.

"We kindly ask that you respect Aaron's need for time and space as he focuses on his recovery."

Shattock spent five years with the Lions, playing a role in the club's 2002 premiership, before venturing to Port Adelaide where he would play 11 AFL games over two seasons.
