An intoxicated Jack Steven reportedly refused to talk with police twice who were investigating the incident which saw the 30-year old hospitalised on Saturday night, according to The Herald Sun.
Steven checked in to hospital Saturday night before the incident was referred to police by hospital staff.
It has been reported that the Geelong midfielder suffered a small stab wound to the chest.
“Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a 30-year-old Lorne man presented at a Melbourne hospital overnight with a non- life-threatening injury,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
“Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and hope to speak to the victim again later today.”
Steven took an Uber to Cabrini Hospital about 1am and was later transferred to The Alfred hospital.
Steven has battled with mental health issues over the past few years and left St Kilda for a fresh start at Geelong in 2020.
He had enjoyed a smooth time so far at the Cats but there a fears that eight weeks out of the AFL system may not have been helpful to Steven's condition.
