Liam Jones has been named as the senior Carlton player reluctant to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
It had been reported on Tuesday night that a Carlton player was yet to be vaccinated and was not certain to do so in the near future. Speaking on Sportsday,ย Sam McClure named the star defender as that player.
The Victorian Government's vaccine mandate requires all authorised workers to have received a second dose by November 26.
When contacted byย Zero Hangerย on Tuesday, Carlton said they wouldn't be commenting on any of their players' vaccination status until they were required to be at training.
First to fourth-year Carlton players arenโt required to return to clubs until November 22, with the rest of the list scheduled to report back on December 6.
McClure said that Jones is facing the possibility of being sacked if he doesn't change his mind.
โA lot of people arenโt going to be happy that weโve named Liam Jones,โ he said onย Sportsday.
โHe is absolutely entitled to his opinion (on the vaccine) and choice โ but the lines have been blurred a little bit in Victoria where anyone who is working is mandated to be vaccinated.
โThat forced the hand of the AFLPA and AFL to come to an agreement, which really makes this cut and dry for the AFL.
โUnless Liam (Jones) gets vaccinated before May 18, Carlton will cut him.โ
