Glenelg Oval has been announced as the venue for the much-anticipated SANFL vs. VFL State Game to be held during Gather Round.

Several SANFL clubs put their hand up to host the match which will be played on Saturday, April 6 at 12:40pm.

It will be the second time Glenelg Oval has hosted state football, with the SANFL defeating the WAFL by 14 points at the Bay in 2012.

The clash with the VFL will be the first since 2016, when the SANFL - coached by Graham Cornes - defeated the Vics by 19 points at Adelaide Oval.

Norwood coach Jade Rawlings will again take charge of the Croweaters following last year's 13-point win over the WAFL at Adelaide Oval.

Taking place over the Gather Round bye weekend between rounds one and two of the SANFL season, the SA selectors will only have one round of football to judge before assembling the team.

There will be several players from last year's win over the WAFL who will be unavailable for the clash, with Martin Frederick, Mitch Hardie, Brett Turner and Cameron Craig all departing the SANFL over the past 12 months.

Port Adelaide great Tim Ginever will continue as Chairman of Selectors following a successful first season in the job last year.

He will be joined on the selection panel by Norwood premiership player James Gallagher as well as the SANFL's Matt Duldig, Sean Toohey and Daniel Joyce.

The famous red jumper will be seen twice in 2024, with SA and WA to again battle for the Haydn Bunton Junior Cup on Sunday, 19 May at Perth Stadium.
