Veteran North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein has reportedly told the club of his desire to play elsewhere next season, bringing an end to a 17-year stay on Arden Street.
The 35-year-old began life as a Kangaroo ahead of the 2007 season, brought through the doors with the 37th pick of the 2006 AFL Draft.
And despite not featuring at AFL level during his first year in blue and white, should Goldstein's request to make tracks this off-season be granted, the ruckman will leave the Roos' huddle having played 315 games, the third most of any Shinboner.
Goldstein does not hold a contract to continue on with North Melbourne next season.
North Melbourne confirmed Goldstein's wishes on Thursday afternoon, stating that while he had opted out, the ruckman had not stated his destination of choice.
“It's been a really tough decision,” Goldstein told Kangaroos Media.
“I've been talking to my manager and my family about what's going to be best for us going forward … and I think that's to look for other opportunities elsewhere.
“It's probably time for the club to have a clean break and give Tristan (Xerri) the opportunity to shine in the number one ruck role.
“I appreciate everything the North Melbourne footy club and all the supporters have given me. They've been the greatest supporters I could have asked for.
“I hope for nothing but the best for this footy club and for this group going forward.”
The record-breaking big man has previously been linked with moves away from North Melbourne, with Geelong often raised as his rumoured destination.
Still, with Brad Scott's Bombers reportedly in the market for some veteran coverage for up-and-coming ruckman Sam Draper, Goldstein may yet rekindle a working relationship with his former coach.
At present, Essendon is armed with picks 8, 27, 46, 67 and 82 should it wish to broker a deal.
In turn, North Melbourne will enter the exchange period holding the draft's 2nd, 14th, 39th, 51st, 59th and 76th picks.
