North Melbourne's VFL program has confirmed the signings of former GWS and Melbourne defender Adam Tomlinson and ex-Gold Coast utility Darcy Macpherson for the coming season.

Both players have been training with the Kangaroos this summer in the wake of their AFL exits, with the pair delisted from their respective clubs at the end of the 2024 season.

Tomlinson lands at Arden Street after 13 years in the top flight, having ben an inaugural player for the Giants in 2012. He played 140 games across eight seasons with the club before seeking a move back to Victoria, linking up with the Demons.

The 31-year-old featured in 45 games for Melbourne in his five years with the club, a stint that included a VFL premiership with Casey and an ACL setback.

Macpherson has returned to his home state after nine years with the Suns, who recruited the defensive-minded forward via the Rookie Draft in 2015.

He would play 97 games in Queensland, including 23 in 2023 before just the two appearances last year under Damien Hardwick.

Speaking to the club's media arm, Roos VFL coach Tom Lynch said the paint bring "a wealth of experience" to the club.

"We're extremely fortunate to have two players with a lot of AFL experience join us," Lynch told NMFC Media.

"Both bring a wealth of experience and will drive really high standards while showing our young players what's required to play at the highest level.

"Darcy and Adam's appetite to train and work hard is immense, and the way they teach and educate guys on and off the field is just as valuable.

"They're going to be great additions for both our VFL players but also our young AFL players and hopefully we can support them so they can continue elevating their football careers."

North Melbourne's addition of Macpherson comes several years after the club has shown an interest in his services as a potential trade play. Macpherson, who was under contract at the time, instead opted to remain with Gold Coast.

The timing of Tomlinson's venture to the Roos comes amid reported interest from West Coast, with the Eagles said to be weighing up a potential move for the veteran defender via the Supplemental Selection Period.

The VFL season is set to commence in late March, with the fixture yet to be confirmed, while the Kangaroos are scheduled to face Casey and Carlton as part of their pre-season run.
