VFL club Coburg has swooped on the services of delisted St Kilda forward Matthew Allison for the 2025 season.

The move sees Allison land at the Lions after four years with the Saints, with the 22-year-old enduring a luckless run with injuries during his time at Moorabbin.

The 195cm forward would not debut at the top level but would feature in 44 games for the Sandringham Zebras in the VFL for a return of 28 goals and 27 behinds to his name.

Allison is the son of Coburg Team of the Century player Brian, who won two premierships with the club across a decorated career in the VFA.

The young forward will now follow in his dad's footsteps in heading to Coburg City Oval, joining for the coming year.

"Matt's a really exciting addition for us," Lions coach Jamie Cassidy-McNamara said of the signing.

"In the back half of 2024, he was among the top handful of key forwards in the competition and has shown that when he is fit and firing, he is an AFL-level talent.

"Matt's professionalism and character will be equally important as we continue to raise our club-wide standards and expectations."

The signing of Allison is the second headline addition of the off-season for the Lions, who have signed Allison's former Saints teammate Jack Bytel for their 2025 campaign after the midfielder departed Collingwood.

Bytel spent five years in the red, white and black before being delisted and would secure a career lifeline with the Magpies ahead of the 2024 season.

Coburg managed five wins this year to sit 18th on the VFL ladder, finishing ahead of Collingwood, Carlton and the Northern Bullants.
