The Southport Sharks have announced the signing of a former Fremantle and West Coast Eagles player.
Hugh Dixon, who was a list casualty of both the Dockers and Eagles, is the newest Shark after the VFL club announced the acquisition of the ruck-forward on Friday afternoon.
Despite having played for both Western Australian clubs, Dixon is a Tasmanian native, having plied his trade for the Kingborough Tigers before earning his first AFL chance with Fremantle via Pick 44 in the 2017 National Draft.
Dixon played just one game in a Dockers guernsey before receiving his next professional opportunity with West Coast in 2022; managing 10 senior appearances before being delisted at the end of that season.
In 2023, Dixon returned to East Fremantle -- where he played in 2021 after his Fremantle axing -- displaying his capability as a key-forward target in the club's WAFL premiership run.
Southport General Manager of Football Operations Jarrod Field welcomed Dixon to the Sharks fold in a club statement on Friday.
"We are really excited to have Hugh join us," said Field.
"He is going to be a terrific addition to our side, and I believe he will play a massive role in helping us improve next year."
After joining the VFL fray in 2021 following the disbanding of the NEAFL competition, the Sharks were runners-up in 2022 and finished 14th this season.
