Former Carlton first-round pick Sam Philp has joined VFL outfit Port Melbourne after leaving the Blues this off-season.

Philp's time at Princes Park came to an after after four seasons and two matches, with the Northern Knights product playing two games in his first year with the club before battling a number of injury setbacks.

The 22-year-old battled rib, hip, groin and most recently foot issues during his Blues tenure, with Philp placed on the club's inactive list this year before making a return through the VFL in August.

The midfield-forward hybrid wasn't offered a new deal for the 2024 season and has since signed with Port Melbourne, joining former Western Bulldogs midfielder Robbie McComb and ex-Fremantle defender Tobe Watson in heading to the Borough this off-season.

"I'm pumped to be joining the Borough in season 2024," Philp said in a club statement.

"The club are really shaping up for a big year and I'm looking forward to contributing to that."

Port Melbourne recorded a 15th-place finish in the VFL this year, amassing just the six wins from 18 games.

When not required at the Borough, Philp will ply his trade for Northern Football Netball League club Bundoora at the local level.

A product out of Melbourne's north-est, Philp will play under Carlton great Heath Scotland at the Bulls, with the Blues best and fairest winner announced as Bundoora's coach for next season.

"We are thrilled that Sam has committed to Bundoora," Scotland said.

"Sam is a highly skilled player coming from the AFL system and compliments our talented playing list."

The Bulls have seen the likes of David ZaharakisNeville JettaSam Lloyd and Shaun McKernan pull on the navy blue and white in recent seasons.
