Smithy's VFL Team of the Year squad has officially been selected, with 40 of the best going around at the reserves level recognised for their efforts in season 2024.
Several AFL-listed players made the cut, many having also featured for their senior side this season.
Three non-AFL-affiliated sides featured the most representatives, with ladder leaders Werribee celebrating six, Southport featuring four and Frankston having three.
Just one club, St Kilda reserves Sandringham, featured no representatives, a disappointing result for the Saints, who boast some young talent at the level, including Hugo Garcia and Arie Schoenmaker.
Notable AFL members include Gold Coast veteran Rory Atkins, Carlton youngster Jaxon Binns, Essendon ruckman Nick Bryan, Sydney call-up Aaron Francis, retiring Kanga Hugh Greenwood, out-of-favour Lions Jarryd Lyons and Deven Robertson, as well as recently re-signed Sun Ned Moyle.
Several youngsters named have given plenty of AFL coaches much to look forward to, players like Ted Clohesy and Mitch Hardie at Geelong, Tiger's Sam Davidson and Lachlan Wilson, Saad El-Hawli at Essendon, plus Box Hill stars Jai Serong and Ethan Phillips.
