Venues, dates and times for the VFL's 2024 Wildcard Round matches have been confirmed, with four clubs set to feature in the second year of the new post-season concept.

The Wildcard Round in the VFL will see sides seventh through 10th play off before the competition's finals series gets underway next week. The two winners will progress to create a final eight.

Reigning premiers Gold Coast, who finished seventh, will host Frankston at People First Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm (all times AEST).

The second Wildcard Round affair will be held at DSV Stadium between Williamstown and Richmond. After winning over the weekend, both sides booked spots eighth and ninth on the ladder, respectively.

The highest-ranked winner of Wildcard Round will progress to the VFL finals series and face Box Hill in an elimination final, while the lower-ranked winner will head to Southport.

Sunday's game between Williamstown and Richmond will be broadcast on Channel 7 for local viewers.

โ€œWildcard Round has brought plenty of excitement to the Smithy's VFL and we look forward to seeing which two teams prevail this weekend to keep their premiership hopes alive," AFL state league boss Jennie Loughnan said in a statement.

โ€œIt has been another highly-entertaining season with the evenness of the competition highlighted last week when 15 teams could still finish in the top 10 heading into the final round, with nine of the ten Round 21 games having a bearing on spots in the finals.

โ€œWe congratulate all teams who have advanced to the 2024 Smithy's VFL Finals Series and wish them the best of luck in their pursuit of the premiership.

โ€œOn behalf of the AFL, I would like to thank all clubs, players, umpires, venues and our broadcast and commercial partners for their outstanding support of the Smithy's VFL in 2024.โ€

Details for the first week of the VFL finals series will be confirmed after the results of Wildcard Round are settled, with Werribee to host Geelong and Footscray to play Brisbane in the qualifying finals.
