St Kilda have filled a category B rookie list spot for next year with the acquisition of Irish talent Eamonn Armstrong.

After tracking the County Meath product at a young age, the AFL club has swooped on the promising Gaelic star.

Armstrong joins fellow Irishman Liam O'Connell on the Saints' list, with the defender having linked up with the Moorabbin club for the recent season as a category B rookie also.

โ€œI couldn't be more excited to embrace this opportunity and all of the experiences it will bring,โ€ Armstrong said of the move.

โ€œThe club has been terrific in really making my family and I feel comfortable with this process.

โ€œI know I have a lot to learn, but I can't wait to get stuck in and really give it my all.โ€

The 18-year-old will finalise his school commitments before making the venture down under and joining his new teammates.

โ€œWe're really supportive of Eamonn's decision to finish school and join us in a few months,โ€ St Kilda football boss David Misson said.

โ€œWe clearly see great potential in him and wanted to make sure he had the comfort of knowing he'd secured a place on our list in the meantime to allow him to concentrate on his studies.

โ€œWe look forward to making Eamonn welcome at RSEA Park next year.โ€

St Kilda added five draftees to their list this week, selecting Tobie Travaglia, Alixzander Tauru, James Barrat, Hugh Boxshall, Alex Dodson and Patrick Said.

The club also re-listed veteran midfielder Brad Crouch via the Rookie Draft on Friday.
