St Kilda have launched an aggressive bid for out-of-contract Eagle Scott Lycett, as reported by The Age.
The Saints, who are also trying to secure Swans midfielder Dan Hannebery, have tabled a long-term contract to the 25-year old ruckman.
Lycett has had an offer on the table from the Eagles since the second knee reconstruction to West Coast's superstar ruckman Nic Naitanui, who will miss most of 2019.
The Power are another team who have been in talks with Lycett, whose main ruckman, Paddy Ryder, has been suffering from an achilles injury. Lycett is from South Australia and played for Port Adelaide's SANFL team, in what would be a huge get for the Power.
Lycett's ability to play as a forward and his ruck work are the main reasons why the Saints and Power are after him. Even though he is South Australian, St Kilda can offer him the role as their first-choice ruckman.
Since he is a restricted free agent, the Eagles can match the deal and force a trade if they arent happy with their compensation. Meanwhile, the Eagles are also fighting to retain star midfielder Andrew Gaff, who has been offered $1 million plus deals from Victorian clubs.
The Saints current ruckman Billy Longer is out-of-contract at season's end, while back up ruckman Tom Hickey has one year remaining.
The Saints have a lot of room in the salary cap. Unlike Hannebery, they can sign Lycett without a trade unless the Eagles match the offer.
Port's interest in Lycett is due to the doubt they have with Ryder's body and because their back up ruckman, Sam Hayes, is currently recovering from knee surgery.
