Nat Fyfe will not be playing for St Kilda next season after the Victorian club pulled out of the race for the 2015 Brownlow medallist.
The Herald Sun can confirm the Saints have cooled their interest on Fyfe, and instead will now look to secure talent from elsewhere, with a range of targets including GWS midfielder Josh Kelly.
Back in April, Fyfe spoke about how he could see his future at the Dockers, and reportedly told management he would turn down any rival offer to remain in the west.
With the Saints dropping out of the race, Fremantle believe a deal ranging between $1-1.2 a season should be enough to keep the star midfielder at the club.
While Fyfe's form hasn't been up to his own high standards due to returning from a broken leg that kept him out for most of 2016, he's still averaging 26.2 disposals and 5.4 clearances a game so far this season, and is a big reason why his side has begun the year with a 6-4 record.
A deal between the two parties could be agreed upon in the next six weeks, although Fyfe is still reportedly set to wait until the end of the season before re-signing.
