Hawthorn is reportedly "right in the mix" in the highly-anticipated race for young West Coast star Harley Reid, with the Victorian club said to be considering tabling "a gigantic deal" to the former Pick 1 selection.
Reid has two seasons to run on his draft contract, which will expire at the cessation of his third campaign with the Eagles.
A renewed contract isn't expected to come early into the 2025 season, with a decision from Reid more likely to land in the back end of this year at the earliest, should he choose to recommit to West Coast.
The Tongala junior will have widespread interest from rivals across the coming 18 months, with several clubs from his home state tipped to weigh up substantial plays for the teen sensation.
The Hawks are predicted to be among the chasing pack, with recent images capturing coach Sam Mitchell chatting with the young Eagles midfielder at Tom Barrass' wedding only piquing the interest of onlookers.
Speaking on the Tradies podcast, AFL reporter Sam McClure revealed the Hawks have held "serious discussions" surrounding a move for Reid, with an offer potentially on the table as early as 2025.
"I think they're right in there," McClure said of the Waverley club's potential role in the race for Reid.
"There have been serious discussions at a high level at Hawthorn around offering a gigantic deal to Harley Reid at the end of this year.
"I think they're right in the mix."
Reid played 20 games in his debut season with the Eagles last year, polling seven Brownlow votes to go with a Goal of the Year title and the AFLPA Best First Year Player Award after averaging 18.55 disposals, 4.00 tackles, 4.95 clearances and 9.80 contested possessions per game.
With the rise in salaries to match the AFL's new collective bargaining agreement, Reid could become one of the game's best-paid players with his next contract.
Any club keen to package a trade offer to lure Reid out of West Coast may need to be unprecedented to what the AFL player movement space has seen before.
The Eagles famously turned down mammoth trade offers before the 2023 draft where they selected Reid with the opening pick of the count.
