Hawthorn has emphatically shut down a move for Finn Maginness as Essendon leered from afar.
Maginness hasn't been able to cement his spot in the Hawks senior side but has been a significant contributor when he gets opportunities.
The 23-year-old has played 45 games in five seasons, including 13 each over the past two campaigns.
With a strong midfield group, Maginness has been played out of position, featuring across the half-back and forwards as well as run-with roles, which have been to good effect.
As a result, the Bombers have expressed their interest in bolstering their midfield group, which could lose the likes of Dylan Shiel and Jake Stringer.
However, Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie denied such a move, saying that the father-son selection will see out the remainder of his contract, lasting until at least the end of 2025.
"Finn (Maginness) will be at the football club," McKenzie said during the opening day of the AFL Trade period.
"The versatility he provides is important for us. We look to what next year provides for us."
Essendon has quickly become resigned to the fact that Maginness will remain in the brown and gold, with their list boss Matt Rosa adding:
โFinn's someone in terms of where our list is at and our profile (we have looked at),โ Rosa said onย AFL Trade Radio.
โWe would like to add players with better running capabilities, and Finn's definitely sort of one of those players.
โBut he's a contracted player had a really good final series, so we don't expect anything to happen in that space.โ
McKenzie also spoke on the likely inclusion of West Coast defender Tom Barrass, who officially requested a trade to the Hawks in late August.
"We've had open conversations with West Coast," McKenzie added.
"We understand that a significant pick has to be involved with getting Tom to the footy club."
Hawthorn currently holds Pick 14 in the upcoming draft and will be a key component of the deal.
