Former Western Bulldogs and Richmond star Nathan Brown believes current Dogs midfielder Mitch Wallis could be out the door at season's end.
Wallis began the season in the VFL before being recalled for round three, but once again finds himself playing for Footscray, after being dropped following the Dogs' loss to Adelaide in round nine.
Since making his debut in round five, 2011, Wallis has played 112 games over eight seasons, but is now a restricted free agent, with an uncertain future.
“There are some real issues down there at the moment. There are a lot of players I am hearing aren’t happy,’’ Brown said on the Sunday Footy Show.
“Mitch Wallis’ name has been thrown up. He is out of the side at the moment. From what I have been told maybe he isn’t playing inside the team rules or where he is expected to play according to Luke Beveridge.
“I don’t think he will be at that footy club next year and it’s a shame because he has such great heritage at that club.”
Brown was also alarmed by comments made from Dogs legend and football boss Chris Grant, after he said they expected to struggle a little after their flag.
Brown disagreed with that sentiment, suggesting the Dogs players would not have been happy with their boss calling their flag anything but hard earned.
“Are they saying they were lucky in that period? If they are the quotes coming from the coach and Chris Grant, if I was a player I would be saying it wasn’t (luck),’’ Brown added.
“We were a good side, we were second on the ladder (last year) after eight or nine rounds and then fell away playing a young side.”
The Dogs are currently 4-7 on the season and sit in 14th place, heading into their bye.
