Contracted Gold Coast swingman Jack Lukosius has landed on Port Adelaide as his preferred new home despite a hefty pitch from rivals Adelaide.

Lukosius - who is contracted at the Suns for another two seasons - has been given the freedom to explore his future after falling out of favour multiple times under coach Damien Hardwick as well as playing out of position.

It is understood that the Power has won the race for the 24-year-old's signature, who has strong ties to the club given his friendship with captain Connor Rozee.

Lukosius originally hails from South Australia, playing for the Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL as well as the Henley Football club.

The trade move comes as the Power faulted on the preliminary final weekend to minor premiers Sydney at the SCG, denying a straight-sets exit with a stirring victory over Hawthorn the week before.

Throughout Ken Hinkley's tenure, dating back to 2013, he has failed to make the last Saturday in September despite seven finals appearances.

Hinkley, at times, trialled Esava Ratugolea forward, while Todd Marshall and Charlie Dixon failed to make a meaningful impact up forward.

The inclusion of Lukosius will add a different dynamic to the front half and will be a formidable pairing with youngster Mitch Georgiades.

The Sun can also be deployed in the backline if needed, although it's not a preferred position.

Ruckman Ivan Soldo has requested a trade back to Victoria after only one year at the club, with St Kilda the likely destination.

The deal for Lukosius could likely involve a first-round selection, which would mean that Dan Houston's desire to return home (Victoria) could be in play.

Currently, the Power's first pick is 36, which won't satisfy the Suns.

If the Saints were to facilitate a deal for Soldo, they could use Picks 43 unless Port Adelaide play hardball and look at the club's Pick 24.

It'd make sense that if a deal for Soldo, and Houston (first-round pick) will likely help the Power gain draft capital to acquire Lukosius.
