Wantaway Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae has reportedly nominated St Kilda as his preferred landing spot after requesting a trade away from Whitten Oval.

Reports last week revealed Macrae had informed the Dogs of his desire to leave the Kennel after 12 years and 249 games in the red, white and blue.

Macrae has a contract with the Dogs until the end of the 2027 season but found opportunities harder to come by this year compared to seasons gone by, with the 30-year-old a three-time All-Australian and the 2021 Gary Ayres Award winner.

The premiership Bulldog played 19 games under Luke Beveridge this season - the equal lowest tally since his debut year (not including the shortened 2020 season).

Macrae was selected as the tactical sub on four occasions in 2024 and would feature for Footscray in the VFL three times this year.

Now seeking a move away from the club, Macrae has reportedly told the Dogs of his desire to join St Kilda during next month's trade period.

Macrae's contract status means the Saints and Dogs will have to agree to a deal that sees the ball magnet land at Moorabbin, with St Kilda currently holding Picks 7, 24 and 43 for November's National Draft.

The Saints are set to add to that handful with the compensation for incoming the loss of free agent Josh Battle to Hawthorn, while the club also has access to their 2025 draft hand.

Macrae was the second Bulldogs player to lodge a trade request following the cessation of the club's 2024 campaign, with Bailey Smith also notifying the Dogs of his desire to join a second side.

The 2024 AFL Trade Period opens on Monday, October 7 and will run until Wednesday, October 16.
