Collingwood superstar Bri Davey has gone down injured in the last quarter of the Pies clash with the Blues.
With Collingwood destined for their first win of the season, Davey was carried from the field in tears after she hurt her knee when attempting a tackle.
The 2021 AFLW Best and Fairest winner has previously injured her ACL when she was at Carlton.
Davey suffered the same injury in 2018 whilst calling Princes Park home and there are now understandable fears that history has repeated itself.
Speaking after his side's win, Collingwood head coach Steve Symonds claimed that as the co-captain had not yet undergone scans, hearts remained in mouths within the Magpies' locker room.
"She'll [Davey] do some scans tomorrow to confirm where everything sits at the moment...fingers crossed it's positive for her," Symonds stated.
While Davey's departure late in the contest saw some gloss come off the Woods' opening week win, the third-year steward stressed that the club's tight-knit would see the midfielder offered sufficient support.
"We've come here and had a Round 1 win and started off our season on a really positive note as far as a result, but we've got a really close connection with our playing group," Symonds continued.
"We've got a theme of 'Family' inside our club and straight away it was like a family member has gone down and everyone's concerned for her at the moment."
However, Symonds revealed that Davey's amateur diagnosis could offer a glimmer of hope for members of the Magpie Army.
"Bri's done one before [an ACL], so obviously she knows and understands what that feels like. This one feels a little bit different she said, so fingers crossed let's hope it is."
With any form of diagnosis sure to see the coalface bull sidelined for a large portion of the condensed season, the Pies will now turn their attention to next Saturday's clash with the struggling Saints.
Although Davey's absence will leave a substantial void in the centre of Victoria Park during Round 2, Symonds suggested that each of Tarni Brown, Mikala Cann and Ebony O'Dea were capable of raising their midfield minutes to cover all bases.
