Former Essendon full-back Dustin Fletcher has detailed one of the extreme lengths the 2000 Bombers went to in reaching the ultimate success.

After falling short - despite heavy favouritism - the year prior, the Bombers were determined to not let the opportunity slip away for a second straight season.

Speaking on former West Coast Eagle Will Schofield's BackChat Podcast, the Bombers' legendary defender said it was a conversation with High-Performance Manager, John Quinn, which sparked the concept that the group had bigger fish to fry than home and away wins.

Fletcher said the Bombers decided in the early part of the season that they would no longer sing the song after home and away wins, with the idea being that they were yet to achieve anything of substance.

They certainly belted it out loud and proud on Grand Final day, didn't they?!
