GWS star Toby Greene is potentially in hot water for a tunnelling action in a marking contest in the Giants' Sunday clash with West Coast.

Competing for a marking contest, Greene collided with West Coast's Matthew Owies, who was hit in mid-air and suffered a hard landing, hitting his head on the ground and was winded after.

Owies would eventually get up and take his set shot and was not assessed for a concussion.

The action seemed incidental however given Greene's history with the MRO, colloquially called the "Toby Tax", as well as Melbourne's Bayley Fritsch financial penalty for a similar tunnelling action against Geelong on Friday, Greene may find himself in trouble with the Match Review Officer.

The collision split Fox Footy's commentary panel, with Jordan Lewis vehemently arguing Greene's contact was accidental, while Dwayne Russell pointed out Greene's unfavourable history with the Match Review Officer.

"I don't think Toby knew he was there," Lewis said.

"That would be hard to pull out of if you're Toby Greene."

"Everyone loves to read into a bit of subcontext if you're Toby Greene though," Dwayne Russell replied.
