Collingwood defender Darcy Moore has flagged contract talks with the Magpies are "progressing well" as both parties negotiate an extension for the star backman.

Moore is eligible to step into free agency this coming off-season, having inked a two-year deal at the end of 2020.

That campaign saw the 2014 father-son draftee earn All-Australian honours and join the top echelon of key defenders in the competition.

His 2021 season was hampered by injury after an exhilarating start to his seventh campaign in black and white, with this year seeing Moore return to his best form under new senior coach Craig McRae.

The Magpies have a handful of star names currently unsigned for 2023, with Moore seen as a priority re-signing for the club. The 26-year-old has revealed he and the club are moving in the right direction in terms of a new deal at the AIA Centre.

“It’s progressing well, so watch this space,” Moore said.

“It’s obviously been a period of change at the club over the past six months, so it’s just been a process of wanting to get settled into the new program and get a few games under my belt and get the vibes nice and high.

“There’s been a good amount of dialogue over the last six months.

“What I’ve heard from my manager is the talks are going well and I’m able to just focus on my footy and getting this team up and going at the moment, which is all I want to do.”

Joining Moore as eligible free agents this season are Jordan De Goey, Mason CoxJamie Elliott and Jordan Roughead, while Josh Daicos, Oliver Henry, Finlay Macrae, Caleb Poulter and Nathan Murphy join a long list of Magpies players off-contract.

Moore has gained reported interest from the Swans in the past, with his likely market price value potentially nearing north of $800,000 per season.

The 104-gamer has begun his 2022 season in style, with Collingwood undefeated in their opening two matches under McRae as Moore leads from the last line in his first season as vice-captain of the club.

The Magpies will have their biggest test yet this Saturday when they clash with Geelong at the MCG.
