While now relishing life in the red and white, Sydney recruit Brodie Grundy is well aware that there may be more "ups and downs" to come in his career.

The former Magpie and Demon has thrived across the opening month of the new season, emerging as a key piece in the Swans' 3-1 start to 2024.

A difficult season last year with Melbourne has since given Grundy a new perspective - one that is now aiding his return through the Swans.

"That perspective and the realisation that it's not a linear journey (has now been a benefit)," Grundy said on what he's learnt from his 12-month spell with the Demons.

"There were some challenging times there, not being exactly where I wanted to be. But that's life.

"We all get dealt different cards and now it's about just trying to make every poster a winner depending on what cards you're dealt.

"I fully suspect this year there'll be ups and downs and I suppose from last year I've just learnt that you've got to zoom out and see the big picture."

Grundy has returned to near-career-best form over his four appearances so far this year, with the new environment in the Harbour City a "breath of fresh air" for the dual All-Australian.

While the 29-year-old's expectations were high, the Swans ruckman has been rapt with how he's fit in with his new club and teammates.

"It's pretty probably more than what I signed up for. I've been really enjoying it so far and it's been a breath of fresh air. It's been a new take on life and footy," Grundy added.

"I'm only a month into that journey but so far I'm really enjoying it.

"I've played a lot of my time as senior level in that number one role and shouldered that responsibility, that's something I definitely relish."

The Unley product has returned to his home state for Gather Round as the Swans prepare to face West Coast at Mt Barker on Saturday afternoon.

While Grundy never played out in the Adelaide Hills as a junior, he will have some familiarity on the field when former Collingwood teammate Tayloer Adams makes his Sydney debut against the Eagles.

Having since overcome a knee strain sustained in the pre-season, Adams is set to bring a competitive edge to the Swans' engine room ensemble.

"He's been waiting a little while now. He's super excited," Grundy said of Adams.

"He's played over 200 games. He's an experienced head and a contested animal. He loves to compete, so I'm sure the Swans fans are going to enjoy what he has to bring.

"We haven't connected on-field for a while now, but we have some history and played some good footy together. I'm looking forward to having him in the midfield."

The Swans will face West Coast at Mt Barker on Saturday at 1:00pm local time.
