Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley didn't rule out star midfielder and captain Connor Rozee being deployed across the halfback in Thursday's qualifying final against Geelong.
Hinkley's cards have dealt poorly as Dan Houston (suspension) and Kane Farrell (hamstring) were ruled out of the remainder of the season on the eve of the finals, forcing the club to reshuffle.
Known for his speed and evasiveness, Rozee has played the position at SANFL level before but has built his reputation dominating in the front half of the ground.
"Without being jovial about it, we'd have to consider that (move to the backline)," Hinkley said.
"Connor has great flexibility for us. He can play at that end of the ground. And he's played there successfully in senior football.
"It's certainly an option for us."
Hinkley admitted that Rozee was almost thrown into that position in the last round of the home and away season when Farrell went down with a hamstring injury.
All-Australia halfback Darcy Byrne-Jones is likely to fill the Houston-Farrell void despite playing the majority of the year up forward while Ryan Burton can be used as well.
The Power are likely to welcome back Charlie Dixon when it announces its teams Wednesday evening, while Todd Marshall will also come into consideration.
Hinkley kept his cards close to his chest regarding what the final 23 will look like, which also included their plan for Geelong star Tom Stewart.
When the clubs met in Round 9, Stewart was held to a measly 18 possessions (by his standards) and four marks by nagging forward Jed McEntee.
However, the Port Adelaide mentor said it wouldn't be advantageous to fixate on just Stewart given the Cats' impressive flexibility.
โGeelong have great flexibility with their team, they throw them around everywhere, so we can't worry too much about what their players will and won't be,โ Hinkley said.
โWe will have plans in place for certain parts of our game that we need to be right, and if that involves one of their players we will take care of that.โ
