Werribee's Tom Gribble and Essendon's Georgia Nanscawen have claimed the VFL and VFLW best-and-fairest awards respectively in consecutive seasons; accomplishing a feat no other male-female duo has.
Gribble, one of the Tigers' consistently high-performing midfielders, also won the J.J. Liston Trophy for the league's best player in the last completed VFL season (2019), while Nanscawen, who helped power the Bombers to a maiden premiership this season, also claimed the Lambert-Pearce Medal in 2021.
The 27-year-old Gribble averaged 33.2 disposals, 13.8 contested possessions, 7.3 clearances, 4.3 tackles and 5.6 inside 50s per game in 2022, running away with the league's highest honour after polling a whopping 30 votes (eight more than the next best).
Nanscawen averaged 24.9 disposals, 14.6 contested possessions, 8.8 tackles and 4.7 clearances, claiming 33 of a possible 36 votes in a truly dominant season.
The 30-year-old Bomber, who represented Australia's field hockey team as recently as 2018, also earned the inaugural VFLW Coaches MVP award.
As for the men's competition, Southport's Jacob Dawson claimed the Coaches MVP award, while Port Melbourne's Ethan Phillips was awarded the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal for the most promising young talent aged under 24 years.
