West Coast are reportedly among a handful of clubs showing interest in Peel Thunder player Michael Sellwood, who looms as a potential train-on prospect for AFL clubs this pre-season.

Sellwood enjoyed a premiership campaign with the WAFL club in 2024, featuring in 21 matches at the league level while also representing Western Australia in the state game against South Australia earlier this year.

The 21-year-old averaged 19.3 disposals, 6.6 marks, and 2.8 disposals per game in defence for Peel last season, holding down an integral role on the road to the Thunder's first flag in seven years.

The young backman's breakout campaign - having only made his WAFL debut last year - is said to have placed him on the radar of AFL clubs.

According toย The West Australian, the Eagles are among the sides showing a level of interest in Sellwood, with clubs from the eastern states - including Carlton - also weighing up a potential play for the Baldivis junior.

Sellwood has not nominated for next week's National Draft however, meaning he would need to be recruited via the Supplemental Selection Period, which will open shortly after the draft window.

Clubs can use the SSP to have potential recruits train in their pre-season programs, with a signing deadline often set for mid-February.

The publication's report also suggests recently delisted youngster Coby Burgiel is expected to be given the chance to train under new coach Andrew McQualter in a bid to fight for a list spot following an injury-hit couple of years at Lathlain Park.

West Coast are in line to use up to six selections at the National Draft, holding Picks 12, 26, 72, 77, 87 and 92.

Their suite of later selections could be linked to a bid for Next Generation Academy talent Malaki Champion, who may fetch interest from a rival club in the later rounds. Picks 77, 87 and 92 do not hold value in terms of draft points but could advance their place in the queue following earlier bids on Academy and father-son tied prospects.

The 2024 AFL Draft will commence next Wednesday, where the first round of selections will be made, with all following picks to take place on Thursday night.
