West Coast coach Adam Simpson's time at the helm might be up sooner than his contract suggests, with his deal expiring at the end of 2025.

Following another disappointing outing on Sunday as the Eagles went down to Melbourne by 54 points at the MCG, reports have indicated that there's been "disenchantment" among the playing group and that a "fresh voice" might be desired.

Simpson has been at the club since taking over ahead of the 2014 season but is currently going through the worst time in its proud history, lamenting at the bottom of the ladder since 2022.

Speaking on Channel 9's Footy Furnace, Tom Morris revealed there was a cohort of senior players who'd like a different direction, despite co-captain Oscar Allen defending his coach early last week.

"I feel like this (Simpson and the Eagles) is coming toward a natural end," Morris said.

"What I can report tonight is that there are senior players who would like a fresh voice at West Coast.

"These are senior players who are playing every week. There is a lot of respect for Adam Simpson, they like (him) but there is a need for now to have a change of voice.

"He's close to 18 months left on his contract... but Adam Simpson is completely aware of his football mortality."

Following the loss to the Demons, Simpson was left despondent by the club's recent form after showing positive signs earlier in the season.

Beaten in all critical components of the game, the 2018 premiership coach was practical with where he stood if he couldn't get the Eagles back up and running.

"I'm here to do a job as best I can and I'll do that until I get tapped on the shoulder," Simpson said post-game.

"That's not really a question.

"I know how long the road's going to be and I'm up for it, but if the club's not then they're not.

"That's fine. I'm OK with my football mortality."

The Eagles will head back west to host Brisbane at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
