The West Coast Eagles have signed former Gold Coast defender Sandy Brock via the Supplemental Selection Period.

The Eagles have had two list spots available to fill ahead of Friday's SSP signing deadline, with Brock training for a list spot alongside ex-Saints backman James Van Es and Werribee's Jack Henderson.

Brock's latest showing for West Coast in the club's practice match against Richmond on Monday saw the 198cm defender strengthen his case for a career lifeline, showing plenty of prowess as an intercepting key defender.

On Tuesday the Eagles confirmed the signing of Brock, who has been training in Perth since last year.

โ€œSandy has been impressive with his work as a key defender,โ€ Eagles football boss Gavin Bell said.

โ€œHe's got a really strong athletic profile and has shown his ability to intercept the ball and provide a contest down back.

โ€œWe're very excited to have him and his family join our club.โ€

Brock spent three years with Gold Coast as a product of the Peel Thunder and the Northern Territory, with the 22-year-old going on to play 59 games for the Suns' VFL side, including the 2023 premiership victory.

He would not feature at AFL level during his time in Queensland.

The Eagles are expected to have lost Henderson to Melbourne ahead of Friday's deadline, with a decision yet to be made on the future of Van Es.

The recently delisted Saint had signed with VFL club Port Melbourne before starting his train-on stint with the Eagles.
