West Coast confirm WAFL squad after loss of ex-AFL trio

West Coast has confirmed its playing list for the 2025 WAFL season, naming a 28-man squad that will help support the club's AFL ranks.

The Eagles reserves have struggled for results in recent years, recording five wins over the past three seasons - four of which came last year.

Since the cessation of the 2024 season, West Coast have bid farewell to ex-AFL trio Trey Ruscoe, Jackson Nelson and Jason Gillbee, with an array of fresh faces joining the Eagles' WAFL squad under second-year coach Kyal Horsley.

Caleb Datson and Thomas Edwards-Baldwin have moved from South Fremantle and Central Wheatbelt Football League outfit Kalannie respectively, with both bringing WAFL experience.

"The strategy this season was to add some experience into the WAFL program to help complement the on-field development of the club's AFL-listed players," WAFL Eagles football boss Steve Trewhella said in a club update.

"We are very pleased to have secured Caleb Datson from South Fremantle, who comes with eight years of senior football experience and was a member of the Bulldog's 2020 premiership team.

"Caleb brings versatility to the group, with the ability to play in several roles across the ground.

"Midfielder Thomas Edwards-Baldwin has played with both Subiaco and East Perth, tasting premiership success in 2019 with the Lions.

"He brings great knowledge and leadership to the team and has been impressive over the pre-season."

The Eagles have named their leadership group for 2025, with Jack Eastough and Shannon Lucassen sharing the captaincy while Harley Sparks and Andries Mercer will act as vice-captains.

West Coast's WAFL campaign gets underway against East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday, April 5.
