The West Coast Eagles are set to reignite contract discussions with one of their co-captains as they attempt to lock down his services for the foreseeable future.

In the midst of a rebuild, the Eagles are aiming to climb off the bottom end of the table where they have been for the past few years.

A key piece of that rebuild is Oscar Allen, who is regarded as one of the best forwards in the competition and was named as the club's new co-captain alongside Liam Duggan at the beginning of the 2024 season.

However, the 93-game player will be on the free agents' list for next year alongside Luke Davies-Uniacke (North Melbourne Kangaroos), Andrew Brayshaw (Fremantle Dockers) and Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs).

Despite this, West Coast will renew contract talks with Allen after the two parties failed to come to an agreement before the trade and draft period as they look to retain his services for the foreseeable future, per the Herald Sun.

It is understood that Allen is hoping to receive either a six or seven-year contract, while the Eagles are only willing to offer him no more than a five-year contract extension at this stage.

One of the main worries about offering him a long-term deal is his horror run with injuries during his time in the AFL. Most recently, he missed a significant portion of this year with a knee injury that will likely hinder him for the rest of his playing days.

Allen looms as a key piece in West Coast's hopes of rising up the competition and is set to partner with breakout forward Jake Waterman for a full season next year.
