West Coast have confirmed young star Harley Reid will spend the early period of his pre-season sidelined in concussion protocols after suffering a head knock at training on Wednesday.

The club has stated Reid sustained a minor head knock and that the Eagles are taking a precautious approach with his setback.

The teenager has entered concussion protocols and will work through non-contract drills over the coming weeks before eyeing a return to full training.

Reid is "doing well" according to West Coast football boss Gavin Bell, who offered an insight into the early stages of Reid's recovery.

โ€œHarley received a minor head knock during training and we took precautionary measures,โ€ Bell said in a club update.

โ€œI've spoken to him today and so has the club doctor. He is doing well, but as he has entered the AFL concussion protocols he will be in non-contact training when he resumes next week.โ€

Reid managed a fairly uninterrupted rookie season with West Coast this year, playing 20 after getting through his first year unscathed.

The reigning Pick 1 selection was rested for the club's Round 7 match and would face a two-game suspension for a dangerous tackle in the second half of the season.

West Coast's first-to-fourth-year players returned to training this week, with the rest of the playing list to join the program later this month.
