In great news for Eagles fans, skipper Luke Shuey has committed to the club for a 14th season.

After an injury-ravaged year in 2021, the Norm Smith medallist has had more game time this year in the form of 16 appearances for Adam Simpson's side despite the Eagles' disappointing campaign.

The 32-year-old has been a faithful servant for the Eagles since he was taken at Pick 18 in the 2008 National Draft, going on to play 237 games for the Perth outfit.

โ€œItโ€™s been a challenging season for the club but as a playing group we have remained united and seen encouraging growth from our next generation who will drive the next era of success, and Iโ€™m really excited to stick around for another year to help guide those players,โ€ Shuey said, via the club's announcement.

โ€œThe opportunities they have had to play senior football this year will pay us back in future and Iโ€™m really confident with better availability we can bounce back quickly as a team in the coming seasons.โ€

Throughout his time at the club, Shuey has put it all on the line for his side, winning two club best-and-fairest awards as well as guiding them to a 2018 premiership win where he also scooped up a Norm Smith Medal.

Despite coming into the twilight of his career, the veteran is still putting up some hefty totals for his side and justifying his spot in a 22 that is well and truly ageing.

2023 is set to be another year of rebuilding for Adam Simpson's side, with the wisdom of Shuey and other senior players integral to moulding the next generation of Eagles stars.

The club's final game of the year comes against the high-flying Cats in Geelong, with the encounter a dead rubber fixture for Chris Scott's side, already having secured the minor premiership.

West Coast, on the other hand, will be wanting to avoid the wooden spoon with a massive upset, however such looks unlikely and will hope that North Melbourne don't beat the Suns in order to secure 17th.
