West Coast youngster Harley Reid has been fined by the AFL for misconduct following his behaviour towards Brisbane fans on Sunday at the Gabba.

Amid a tough day at the office, which included a bump from Lions ruckman Oscar McInerney, Reid can be seen flipping the bird toward spectators.

"After requesting a please explain and reviewing Reid's submission, the AFL determined his actions during Sunday's game warranted a financial sanction," the league statement said.

"The AFL has fined West Coast's Harley Reid $1,000 for misconduct during the Round 2 match against the Brisbane Lions."

The umpire awarded Reid a free kick after McInerney bumped him after the Eagles midfielder disposed of the ball.

The former Pick 1 was also involved in a scuffle with Lions veteran Dayne Zorko as the pair wrestled on the ground.

"We try to bash the theatre out of this game sometimes, don't we?" West Coast coach Andrew McQualter said post-match.

"He's just having a bit of fun. Sometimes that's good for the game, I think."

Reid's fines come as a heap of criticism has come his way following two relatively down performances from his lofty standards.

The Tongala product burst onto the scene in his maiden campaign but has since received extra attention, including Brisbane tough nut Josh Dunkley.

The AFL has asked the Eagles for further context around the incident, with an outcome expected in the coming days.
