Western Bulldogs star Adam Treloar has suffered another injury setback to his calf, delaying his return to AFL action.

Treloar sustained respective calf injuries to his left and right leg in December and January, and is a part of an extensive injury list at the Kennel which includes stars Marcus Bontempelli and Liam Jones.

The 2024 All-Australian has been progressing through recovery until Friday, when he sustained more calf soreness and injury symptoms at training.

Bulldogs Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell said the setback will delay his return date.

โ€œAdam has been building the continuity in his training across the last six weeks following an injury-interrupted December and January period,โ€ Bell said.

โ€œUnfortunately, Adam has suffered some calf symptoms following Friday's training session.โ€

โ€œThis will delay his return-to-play plan, with the Club to confirm his new timeline in coming days.โ€

In positive news, Jones could be available as soon this round as he progresses towards full fitness from a hamstring injury.

Jones suffered a high-grade hamstring injury in February which was set to rule the key defender out for at least two months, however the 34-year-old has progressed fast and could make his AFL return in just seven weeks.

Bell said Jones pulled up "really well" after a match simulation hitout on Friday.

"Liam Jones has progressed well following his hamstring injury earlier this year,โ€ Bell said.

โ€œHe completed a game-like training simulation session on Friday and has pulled up really well.

โ€œIf he gets through training this week like I expect, he will return to availability."

Additionally, James O'Donnell will raise his hand for selection in Round 3 as he heals from a fractured jaw.

O'Donnell needed surgery after incidental contact during Round 1's clash with North Melbourne and was rested conservatively against the Pies.

โ€œJames has recovered well following the operation that he had on his fractured jaw.

โ€œWe opted for the conservative decision on the weekend and he didn't play, but we are optimistic that James will be putting his hand up for selection for this weekend.โ€

The Bulldogs face Carlton on Friday night at Marvel Stadium, with both teams looking to put their respective Round 2 losses behind them.
