The 2024 AFL Mid-Season Draft will take place on Wednesday, May 29, with clubs able to add to their respective lists between Rounds 11 and 12 of the home and away season.

The Mid-Season Draft allows clubs with vacant rookie list spots to draft players who either were delisted by an AFL club last year or nominated for last year's National Draft.

Nominated players who have played a minimum of three matches in any of the WAFL, SANFL or VFL this year do not need to have been nominated for the most recent National Draft.

Prospects ineligible can file for exemptions, assuming there is interest from AFL clubs.

AFL clubs either have list spots that were unfilled to start this season or can open list spots by moving inactive players to the long-term injury list, or through players retiring.

When is the Mid-Season Draft?

The 2024 Mid-Season Draft will take place remotely on Wednesday, May 29.

The draft will fall three days after the conclusion of Round 11 of the current season.

AFL clubs involved in the draft will lodge their selections across the evening, with the count to commence at approximately 7:00 pm (AEST).

Who are the top Mid-Season Draft prospects

Collingwood VFL forward Jack Hutchinson is among the top-rated players eligible for the Mid-Season Draft.

Hutchinson has enjoyed a strong start to his VFL campaign this year after joining the Magpies from regional Victorian club Wonthaggi.

Peel Thunder's Jacob Blight is another player who could be of interest to AFL clubs looking to bolster their key defensive stocks.

Also potentially in the mix to be selected are Dandenong Stingrays talent Ben Hopkins, Eastern Ranges defender Cooper Trembath and Geelong Falcons forward Will McLachlan from the Talent League.

Which clubs have picks for the Mid-Season Draft and what is the draft order?

Any club that has a vacant list spot as of the cessation of Round 11 will be able to add to their list via the Mid-Season Draft.

Fremantle and Gold Coast each had one list spot free entering the 2024 season and will be able to add to their list.

Clubs like Brisbane and Richmond can open up list spots by moving players to the inactive list, with Lion Keidean Coleman and Tiger Josh Gibcus among those set to miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

Collingwood (Nathan Murphy), Melbourne (Angus Brayshaw), the Western Bulldogs (Aiden O'Driscoll) and Adelaide (Rory Sloane) have seen list spots open up through retirements.

The draft order for the Mid-Season Draft will be the reverse of the ladder order as of the end of Round 11. Only clubs with open list spots will have a spot in the order.
