Retiring Adelaide champion Rory Sloane is heading a five-person panel that will hand out the 3-2-1 votes for the illustrious Norm Smith medal in the 2024 AFL Grand Final on Saturday.

The recently retired Crows legend will join former players Jack Riewoldt (Fox, Chair) and Shaun Burgoyne (Channel 7) as selectors of the award alongside media personalities Riley Beveridge (AFL Media) and Anna Harrington (AAP).

Riewoldt will be voting on behalf ofย Fox Footy and has also been named as the Chair of the voting panel, giving him the authority to make a tie-breaking decision in a result of a draw.

A drawn vote count will be decided by the number of three votes received, with a tie in that outcome then going to the number of two votes received. If still unbroken, then the Chair will break the tie.

All five judges will submit 3,2,1 votes on the top-performing players, with three votes going to the players viewed as best-afield.

The Norm Smith medal was first presented in 1979, won by Carlton's Wayne Harmes against Collingwood.

It was named in honour of Melbourne legend Norm Smith, who won four VFL premierships as a player and six as a coach.

Richmond's Dustin Martin holds the record as the player who has won the most with three, with Luke Hodge, Andrew McLeod and Gary Ayres following with two.

There has been four players who have won the Norm Smith medal in losing sides: Maurice Rioli (Richmond) in 1982; Gary Ablett Snr. (Geelong) in 1989; Nathan Buckley (Collingwood) in 2002; and Chris Judd (West Coast) in 2005.
