Melbourne (Pick 18)

Finlay Macrae

If we're being honest with ourselves, then we'll readily admit that we all think that Melbourne's list should be contending for a premiership. The recruitment of Ben Brown strengthened the Dees' largest weakness for a price that left eyes Sahara dry.

With this in mind, the query then shifts โ€“ what and who should Melbourne be targeting when they enter the draft at pick 18?

Our answers? Another midfielder and Finlay Macrae.

With Nathan Jones' salad days in a red and blue guernsey well and truly past, it makes sense for the Demons to chase a borderline โ€˜like for like' replacement. With Macrae, they'll more than receive that.

In his seven NAB League appearances for Oakleigh last year, the younger brother of Bulldog's superstar Jack averaged 17 disposals.

Macrae's peak performance came the week prior to him and the Chargers claimed the flag with 22 disposals and two goals in the Preliminary Final victory over Sandringham.

With polish on both sides of his body, a level head as well as the capacity to move forward and hit the scoreboard, Macrae will offer Simon Goodwin versatility should he fall as far as the 18th pick.
