It's once again the time of year in which we pin our hopes for happiness on some kids with potential.
As the draft is likely to yield far more questions that answers for the standard footy fan, we here at Zero Hanger have attempted to alleviate some of the ambiguity for you.
Here is a comprehensive list of future stars we feel each club should - if available - be taking with their first pick in the draft
Carlton (Pick 38)
Corey Preston
It seems incongruous to see that Carlton won't be making their first draft selection early in the first round. Them doing so has almost become as certain as day into night over the past two decades.
After eventually trading pick eight in a package to Essendon for Adam Saad, the Blues first selection in 2020 now falls well inside the second round at 38.
Entering the draft at such a position means that Blues' list manager Nick Austin will be forced it either selecting the best available โslider' or drafting specifically to strengthen weaknesses in their list.
With a popular view prevailing that beyond Eddie Betts and Michael Gibbons, Carlton lack an out and out small forward. With the former well and truly into his career's winter years, Austin may well be looking to strike gold with pick 38.
Of the players that fulfil the need, it is almost certain that any of the truly known quantitates will have found new homes by the time Austin gets first crack at the board.
Although lacking any uber serious underage football of late, bottom age Eastern Ranges product Corey Preston could be the name on Austin's lips come early December.
According to draft and talent guru Kevin Sheehan, Preston is not only a composed overhead mark and kick, but also possesses a great goal sense.
Still yet to turn 18, this year's draft may well prove to be a year too early for Preston, however, if Sheehan is singing his praises, it won't be long before he is listed.
Both Jack Bowey and Corey Durdin also likely to be on Austin's radar.
