One of the major betting markets every Brownlow night is the leader of the count after Round 5. The Brownlow Medal saw three names tied after the opening five rounds.

In 2022 the major contenders to lead the count after five rounds were Andrew Brayshaw (Fremantle), Ben Keays (Adelaide), Christian Petracca (Melbourne), Patrick Cripps (Carlton) and Isaac Heeney (Sydney).

Keays, Brayshaw and Petracca were all level on nine votes at the Round 5 mark.

Brisbane's Lachie Neale was narrowly behind by one vote, while Cripps and Saint Jack Steele were well placed on seven votes each.
