It has been revealed that 2021 Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines suffered heart palpitations during Thursday night's loss to Melbourne.

Wines was subbed out of the match in the opening half of the Adelaide Oval affair, sparking concern for the star midfielder's health.

The 27-year-old was among multiple casualties for Ken Hinkley in what was a dreadful night for the Alberton Club, who fell to the reigning premiers by 32 points after a goalless first half.

Ruckman Scott Lycett suffered a shoulder injury in the loss, however opted to play out the remainder of the match despite the setback.

While the former Eagle remains a chance to face Carlton next week, the diagnosis isn't as clear for Wines, who was battling nausea and dizziness during the match.

Wines was taken to hospital for testing and is set to undergo further examination to discover any causes of the palpitations. Port Adelaide revealed on Friday that Wines is still in hospital with heart irregularity.

The Power will turn their attention to a nine-day break before facing a likely undefeated Carlton outfit.

Defensive duo Aliir Aliir and Trent McKenzie could overcome ankle and knee issues respectively to be in selection considerations.

Port Adelaide have stooped to an 0-4 start to the season and will enter their Round 5 clash with the Blues unfavoured.

Their run across the next month will also consist of clashes with the Eagles, Saints and Bulldogs in the succeeding rounds.
