West Coast youngster Tyrell Dewar has put his name forward for a Round 1 spot in Andrew McQualter's side after flourishing in a wing role, while a pair of Eagles train-on players look to have strengthened their case for AFL contracts in a comfortable victory over Richmond on Monday morning.

The Eagles hosted a young Tigers outfit at Lathlain Park for their first game of the pre-season, with the travelling side having just one player played with more than 70 games experience in their 22-player squad.

The hitout consisted of just three 25-minute terms as both clubs relied on their younger ranks and fringe options in preparation for the 2025 season, with the contest an even one early.

Despite the Tigers holding a one-point lead at the first break, the Eagles were dominant for much of the contest as their counter-attacking play looked to open up Richmond's undermanned defence.

Dewar was lively in the blue and gold as a hard-working wingman, involved in plenty of link-up play while also getting forward to convert a goal on the run from distance as the game opened up.

The small forward almost took a pair of Mark of the Year contenders but couldn't hold onto the ball as he came to ground, with the 20-year-old continuing to excite locals.

His partnering wingman, Mid-Season Draft addition Jack Hutchinson, also looked comfortable in a fresh role as a composed ball-winner and runner.

Hutchinson, who was drafted as an athletic forward target out of Collingwood's VFL program last May, impressed in the middle third of the ground after featuring in a similar role late last year.

Young West Coast speedster Elijah Hewett was heavily involved after a year on the sidelines, booting the opening goal of the game with a nice goal on the run assisted by new recruit Matt Owies.

Owies would also get his name in the goalkickers' column, with small forward Tyler Brockman leading the way with three majors while Oscar Allen (two), Noah Long and Jack Petruccelle joined Hewett, Owies and Dewar with goals also.

Richmond's Pick 1 selection Sam Lalor kicked two of his side's four goals in a promising first appearance for the Tigers, which unfortunately ended abruptly with an injury concern from a marking contest.

Lalor was helped from the field in the dying stages of the match with a suspected head/neck issue, with Rhyan Mansell converting a set shot from Lalor's free kick.

Project Tiger Oliver Hayes-Brown also managed to kick a goal as he looked to show his ruck prowess alongside youngster Samson Ryan.

Richmond premiership players turned Eagles recruit Liam Baker and Jack Graham had solid first outings with their grit and defensive efforts, while Supplemental Selection Period prospect Jack Henderson added another layer to McQualter's midfield mix.

The trial performance would've only aided Henderson's case for one of the two free list spots at West Coast, but it was tall defender Sandy Brock who may have had the best display from all three of the Eagles' SSP hopefuls.

The former Gold Coast backman was imposing in the air with his intercept work, looking to get an edge over ex-Saint James Van Es in their battle for a contract out west.

The Eagles will have until Friday to make a call on whether they'll fill either of their two vacant list spots.

West Coast defender Brady Hough was among the Eagles' most impressive as he looks to add to a solid first three seasons in the top flight, while Reuben Ginbey and the aforementioned Petruccelle were also in the thick of the action.

Richmond got a closer look at their battle for spots in defence as Jacob Blight, Jacob Koschitzke and Ben Miller combined in Adem Yze's rearguard, while young swingman Campbell Gray showed some promise in the air.
