Exciting Hawthorn youngster James Worpel has recommitted his future to the club.

The emerging midfielder put pen to paper with the Hawks on a new two-year deal, tying him to the club until the end of 2021.

Hawks GM of Football was pleased to lock down one of the club's most promising young players.

“James is a talented young player with an exciting future ahead of him,” Wright told the club website.

“He’s a great person to have around the club, and obviously he’s become pretty popular with our fans too.

“He had some big moments in 2018. He demonstrated his ability to perform at the elite level and he certainly doesn’t shy away from the contest.

“We’re looking forward to watching his development over the coming years.”

Worpel is coming off a breakout season in 2018, playing 11 games and averaging 17.6 disposals per contest. He was rewarded with Sam Mitchell's No. 5 guernsey for the 2019 season.

The 20-year old figures to receive more midfield opportunities with Tom Mitchell likely sidelined for the entire campaign with a broken leg.
