Gold Coast young gun Elijah Hollands has inked a new two-year deal to remain with the Suns until the end of the 2024 season.

Hollands is yet to feature for the Queensland club at AFL level after spending his entire rookie year recovering from an ACL injury sustained prior to joining the Suns.

The talented teenager was drafted with the No.7 pick in the 2020 National Draft, having shown plenty of promise as an exposive midfielder through his junior development.

Speaking to Suns Media, Hollands said it was an easy decision to re-sign with Gold Coast as the club builds for the future.

“I’ve signed a two-year contract extension which is obviously really exciting,” Hollands said.

“It was no-brainer, an easy decision really, the club has taken great care of me and I’ve enjoyed my time here so far.

“This group is building a great culture at the footy club and it’s something I want to be a part of.”

Hollands will be eyeing an AFL debut in 2022 after lifting his training regime this pre-season, working alongside a star midfield contingent in Touk Miller, Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson.

The emerging ranks within Stuart Dew's young side are set to reach new heights this season, a goal the club have been building toward since the conclusion of last year.

“It’s been really exciting; we’ve had a really good summer," Hollands added.

“We’re trying to build a solid foundation to kickstart us this year, the energy is great, everyone is up and about.

“We’re really looking forward to the year ahead, obviously the group has high hopes of playing finals footy and we often talk about being the first group of AFL players at the SUNS to do it, which is a great motivator, it’s something that really drives us.”

Suns fans may get a first glimpse of Hollands in their upcoming pre-season fixtures against Port Adelaide and Geelong, while their home and away campaign will begin on Sunday, March 20 against West Coast at Optus Stadium.
